Rich Seifert (B.E., M.S.E.E., M.B.A., J.D.) has been a ham since 1968, first licensed as a Novice (WN2DLJ) in New York City. He obtained his Extra Class license in 1970. After moving to Massachusetts and changing his call to KE1B, he went QRT in 1982, focusing instead on his professional career. Rich has over 45 years of experience in the computer industry, specializing in computer network architecture, systems, and product design, and was one of the original developers of the 10 Mb/s Ethernet technology at Digital Equipment Corporation. He taught graduate-level courses in Computer Networks at the University of California for over 15 years, has published three best-selling technology treatises, has chaired and co-authored numerous international standards for computer communications, and has founded high-tech companies both in the U.S. and abroad. And while he hopes you won’t hold it against him, Rich is also an attorney, admitted to practice law in California and at the Federal bar.

Although he didn’t make a QSO for 25 years, he rekindled his interest in the hobby in 2007, and has been very active ever since, primarily as a DX’er and contester. He is a past president and current Board member of the San Lorenzo Valley ARC, past Board member of the Northern California DX Club, and a founding member of the Pizza Lover’s 259 (PL259) contest club. Rich has been Co-Chair of the International DX Convention for 2015, 2017, and 2019, is an ARRL member and a member of CWOps.

More recently, Rich (KE1B) and his girlfriend have raised Holiday DXpeditioning to an art form. Since 2011, they have traveled to numerous destinations in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and coastal Africa in search of fine food, great beaches, and massive pileups. He has over a dozen callsigns, plus his contest call, K6MMM.
