Don Doughty, W6EEN, was a long-time friend and supporter of the NCDXF. In May 1997, Don donated $20,000 to the NCDXF to create a scholarship fund for qualified radio amateurs. He contributed another $20,000 in 2006 to this fund. Interest from the principal provided one or more yearly scholarships for collegiate amateur operators. The first of these was awarded in 1998.

Beginning April 22, 2013, NCDXF has decided to use these funds in a new way. NCDXF is committed to bringing younger DXers and Contesters into our hobby.  Starting April 22, 2013, NCDXF will provide full tuition scholarships for hams 25 years of age and younger at all DX University and Contest University sessions held in North America for the next year. This includes those held at the 2013 Dayton Hamvention. There is no restriction as to class of license.
